Echinococcus multilocularis

This tiny tapeworm is distributed in Arctic regions. In Japan, it is found throughout Hokkaido, but recently the worm has also been found in pigs and dogs in Honshu. A person may become infected with this parasite upon consumption of the parasite eggs, which are excreted in the stools of a red fox, the final host. The alveolar hydatid cysts propagate like tumors in the human liver.
