Those filarial worms live in lymphatic vessels such as in leg joints, and obstruct drainage of lymph fluid, causing the lymphatic vessels to
enlarge, leading to elephantiasis. While there are no patients in Japan today, this nematode is widely distributed in both tropical and
subtropical zones. Several species of mosquitos can carry this parasite.
